Eat your heart out: anatomical cakes

Today we popped to the Eat Your Heart Out cake exhibition at St Bartholomew’s Pathology Museum in st barts hospital (near barbican). This is the first cake show which has had anatomically correct cakes and I must say they were somewhat impressive!

There was all sorts from brains to lungs to skills to wounded legs…quite an eyeful!

You can even have a stool sample cocktail…yummy!!

To make it even more appropriate for this Halloween weekend, the pathology museum is full of real body specimens which date back to the 1800s. They were worth a visit on their own without the disgustingly delicious sweet treats!

What’s more, it is free entry, the cakes are for sale and you can even learn a thing or two about the body!

We bought a couple of cakes…including a maggot infested wound cake.

As tasty as I’m sure it was, the maggots were just two lifelike for me to eat! Not that it went to waste..

It is still there tomorrow so if you have some free time I’d recommend popping along.

Hope you’ve had a good weekend!
