Travels: Bergen, Norway

massive crab legs….fish me….more massive crabs, alive this time….the famous old wooden wonky houses of Bryggen….fancy Bergen manhole covers….Monday begins on Saturday…..knowit….who can see the sea?….moooooooose…..

We’ve just got back from spending 24 hours in Bergen, Norway (new country yay!) on the way home from France. It was a lovely cute little place although incredibly expensive…in fact it actually made Cannes look cheap. Bergen is most visited as being the entry point for the Norwegian Fjords, we didn’t have the chance to go out to those but we mulled around the town seeing the sights and enjoying the atmosphere.

Hope you’ve had a good summer.

Travels: The Photographers of Angkor Wat

Travels: The Photographers of Angkor Wat

Almost everyone is familiar with the famous picture of Angkor Wat; you know the one where you can see the temple reflected in the water in front of it (generally, but not always, at sunrise) . It is replicated so … Continue reading

Travels: The Stars of Paris

A couple of weeks back I took the boy to Paris for his Christmas present (for some snippets and pics of the other things we got up to, see here). It wouldn’t have been a trip to Paris without going to see (and climb) the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur and the Louvre, which incidentally was the reason we went there in the first place. Paris is one of my favourite cities in the world and I don’t think I will ever grow tired of visiting it or it’s most famous sites. Here are a couple of the photos I snapped of Paris’s iconic features that require no further introduction:

Travels: Budapest, Hungary

image

Hungary’s beautiful Parliament building at magic hour….breakfast is served….the chain bridge over the Danube….interesting gifts from the market….yes, we went shooting :-/, it terrified me….house beer and amazing (cheap) food at Menza….the way a fridge in a holiday apartment should be….the view of Pest over the Danube at night….we’re in the money!!….

A couple of weekends ago, I headed over to Hungary’s capital city, Budapest, for a couple of days with some friends.

We got super cheap flights with Ryanair (£30 return!) and an AMAZING apartment which cost €330 euros for three nights. Our apartment was so amazing and huge that to start with we didn’t want to leave it! It could have slept at least eight people if not more so would be super dooper cheap if you were going as a big group.

All in all, our stay was pretty random. We had a couple of great meals (and an average one that had us argue over a 17% service charge with the owner), did lots of walking, chilled out in the Gelleart spa, visited a nazi/communist museum, saw some art, ice skated, met a fascist, pretended we were fashion critics and shot a magnum!!

All in all, I really enjoyed Budapest, and I’m sure I will share some more photos of it soon.

It seems to be that everyone is heading there at the moment, have you been?

Travels: Paris, France

The musee d’orsay (well worth a visit if you are into your impressionist painters)….snowy days from the Eurostar….how to kill a rat….the Venus de Milo at the Louvre….trying to be awake with the boy at stupid am…..an overflowing Seine….St Pancras station….it wouldn’t be a trip to France without a pain au chocolate…..getting around on the world’s most confusing metro line….

We’ve spent the past couple of days in Paris which has been lovely. We stayed at the Secret De Paris hotel which I would definitely book again. The trip was my Christmas present to the boyfriend as he’d never been to the Louvre, so we’ve had a crazy couple of days packed with art, culture, sightseeing and walking. Highlights have included: taking him round the Louvre; seeing Monet, Manet, Renoir and Cezanne at the Musee D’Orsay; a mini picnic at Notre Dame and an amazing extravagant meal at Le Bouche dans Le Bois. I do love Paris, such a pretty city.

I’m going to post again soon with some of my key monument snaps from my phone (see here).

What do you love about Paris?
